Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province, is located on China’s southeast coast and serves as a key central city in the southern wing of the Yangtze River Delta. With a history of over 2,200 years, this ancient city is not only one of the important cradles of Chinese civilization but also one of the most vibrant cities in modern China.
The age-old saying “Above there is heaven, below there are Suzhou and Hangzhou” speaks to Hangzhou’s unique charm. The West Lake, the soul of the city, is surrounded by mountains on three sides and borders the urban area on one side. Adorned with three islands and dotted with historical sites along its shores, it has inspired countless poems from literati like Bai Juyi and Su Dongpo throughout history. In 2011, the West Lake was inscribed on the World Heritage List. Additionally, Hangzhou boasts other world heritage sites such as the Hangzhou section of the Grand Canal and the Liangzhu Ancient City Ruins, weaving a rich cultural tapestry.
